My Final Bet of 2020 has Wrestlemania Like Storylines

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

When the calendars turned to January of 2020, I finally decided to take a leap into the world of sports betting.

While the amounts I bet might make some people scoff, I have really tried to analyze sports from a different perspective due to my newly discovered hobby.

Like a lot of sports bettors, my year included both triumphs and heartbreaks.

My first 10 bets included an impressive eight wins. I thought that this sports betting stuff was pretty easy as a result. Turns out, this activity can be just as cruel as it is rewarding. I lost several bets in a row after that initial run.

Just as I was ready to take a break, Coronavirus made the decision for me by stopping sports across the world for a significant amount of time. Even after sports returned to television sets around the country, I waited to return to DraftKings.

My comeback in the late summer included a series of runs, both good and bad. The positives gave me the confidence to make a sizeable bet (for me) on a parlay featuring the Heat and Thunder covering in their playoff matchups against the Bucks and Rockets.

Miraculously, that bet hit and shot my account to heights that it had never been to before. The timing aligned with DraftKings' promotion with the Chiefs for their Week 1 game. I bet the max allowed on that and proceeded to cash out afterward, leaving just $20 in my account.

After hauling in more money than I ever imagined winning from this little hobby, I won just two out of my next eight bets.

That leads us to the topic at hand, my final wager of the year.

Technically, I won't know the results until 2021 since the game's in question take place on New Year's Day, but that is besides the point.

Today, I pulled the trigger on a parlay that included Alabama -20 in their game against Notre Dame and Clemson -7 in their matchup with Ohio State. That's right, the College Football Playoff has more than you originally thought on the line.

I dumped the rest of my account into this bet, feeling very confident when I made it. That might be the first storyline in question, but it certainly isn't the only one.

DraftKings is a fine service, but almost everyone I know uses FanDuel. Combine that with my current platform's interface being a little too clunky for my liking, and you have a bettor ready to take his talents to South Beach come next year. I want to pull a CM Punk at Money in the Bank 2011 and leave knowing that I am on top of the world.

Aside from a fictional storyline that I concocted in my mind, there is a real storyline that I discovered while looking at my bets throughout the year.

That storyline is that this bet determines whether or not I finish above .500 on the year.

As we stand, I sit at 16-16 with my current results. This final parlay determines whether or not I close the year out with a winning record.

Talk about some big stakes.

Stay tuned for an update on how things turn out for me following the CFP games. Happy New Year!
